Hockey Maharashtra beat Bengal Hockey Association 11-0
Ramanathapuram: On the second day of the Hockey India 7th Sub Junior National Hockey Championship 2017 (Women) 'A' Division, teams played out to their full potential creating some nail-biting performances that kept the spectators enthralled. Results from the day’s play are listed below.
In the opening game of the day from Pool B, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu beat Hockey Bihar 2-0 in a hard fought encounter. Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu's R Nandhini showcased good skill to convert a field goal in the 32nd minute to take a 1-0 lead while her compatriot M Nithya Sri scored the second goal for their team in the 34th minute to ensure a comfortable victory.
Hockey Andhra Pradesh rode on multiple goals by Bhavani Mudugula who scored in the 14th, 26th, 33rd and 35th minute to add to a sensational 9-0 victory over Hockey Madhya Pradesh. The other goal scorers for the winning team were Mary Lotla who converted two field goals while Jyothi Undabanda scored in the 28th and 63rd minute. Sandhya Balagonda opened the scoreboard for Hockey Andhra Pradesh in the 4th minute.
Hockey Maharashtra, on the other hand, showcased stellar form when they trounced Bengal Hockey Association 11-0 in their Pool D encounter. There was never a dull moment for the Hockey Maharashtra women who ensured to convert a goal almost every time they were let into the D by a hapless Bengal Hockey Association team. Goals for Hockey Maharashtra came in the 7th, 10th, 16th,18th, 31st, 34th, 37th, 41th, 45th, 58th and 66th minute of the match. Rutuja Pisal was the star performer for the winning team with as many as three goals to her credit.
Meanwhile in the Pool D match from Wednesday, Hockey Gangpur – Odisha got the better of Hockey Karnataka 7-0. Women from Hockey Gangpur- Odisha stayed on top of their game right from the start with an opening goal coming in the 16th minute of the match. While Manisha Oram (20’ and 48’), Aten Topno (27’ and 45’) and Jyotsna Rohidas (46’ and 54’) scored two goals each, Jiwan Kishori Toppo scored in the 16th minute to trounce Hockey Karnataka.
In first semifinal game of the Hockey India 7th Sub Junior National Hockey Championship 2017 (Women) B Division, Hockey Him beat Hockey Coorg 7-0 to enter the final. Hockey Him rode on impressive skill work by Ankita Dahiya (10’ and 45’) and Arti Kashyap (13’ and 52’ minute) who scored double goals each while Kriti (48’), Antim Malik (56’) and Shristi Bhojgi (67’) scored a goal each to ensure their team sailed into the final.
The second semifinal between Hockey Madhya Bharat and Hockey Bhopal saw Hockey Bhopal win 2-0. While both the teams pressed hard in the first half ensuring an even 0-0 scoreboard, the 10-minute break ensured Hockey Bhopal brought in a few variations that helped the team convert a penalty corner in the 39th minute. Soni Ladwal made no mistake when she confidently took the PC to ensure a 1-0 lead while her teammate Sakchi converted a field goal in the 65th minute to ensure their team booked the final berth. They will play Hockey Him in the final.
