DSK Cup 2016: Quarter Final line-up is confirmed
A Physically Superior Fateh Hyderabad AFC downed a youthful DSK Shivajians FC ‘B’ by three goals to nil to progress to the Quarter Finals of the DSK Cup 2016, while Salgaocar FC and Ozone FC played out a goalless draw, with both teams already assured a place in the Knock Out Round.
The Round-Up
At the 4 PM Kick-Off, here, at the DSK Dream City Football Fields in Pune, Fateh Hyderabad physically dominated the DSK Shivajians FC ‘B’ side who comprised of mostly youth wing of the club, namely, the Liverpool FC International Academy – DSK Shivajians U-18 boys. Playing with two foreigners in the starting XI, the side from Telangana were made to do most of the running early on, with DSK Shivajians displaying remarkable coolness in possession and menace in attack. The goal, however, scored on the counter by Fateh Hyderabad’s Mohammed Irshad served to calm the visitor’s nerves.
With the livewire Notea in attack, DSK Shivajians always looked like the side more likely to score next. However, it was a mix-up between the DSK Shivajians FC ‘B’ defenders and the goalkeeper, as well as a quick counter that ensured the three points for the visitors with two goals scored in quick succession. Both sides are, however, through to the Quarter Final Round of the Cup.
In the final group stage encounter at the DSK Cup 2016 between Goan giants Salgaocar FC and newcomers Ozone FC, much was expected. Salgaocar, former champions of India, were up against it with Ozone signalling their intent for the title with an absolutely dominant performance in their first match. The encounter was a fairly even affair, with World Cupper Cornell Glen proving a constant threat to the Goan side’s defence. In what proved to be an overwhelmingly physical tussle, it was Salgaocar FC, who were the more dejected of the two sides as the final whistle was blown, missing out on the three points with Kamo Bayi fluffing his lines in the dying embers of the match.
The Quarter Final Round
DSK Shivajians FC ‘A’ will now take on FC Pune City ‘A’, while Mumbai FC play Minerva AFC on the 15th of November. The 16th will see Fateh Hyderabad AFC in action against Ozone FC Bengaluru, with the game between Salgaocar FC and DSK Shivajians FC ‘B’ completing the Quarter Final Line-Up.
